After searching the world over to find the perfect place to capture millimetric and submillimetric waves, scientists identified a plateau where the conditions were unmatched: Chajnantor, in northern Chile. At 5 thousand meters above sea level, this privileged location provides unbeatable observation due to its atmosphere almost devoid of water vapor that allows ALMA to capture the weak signals from the Universe.
