B-roll - Working at Heights

19 August, 2020 / Read time: 1 minute

To maintain antennas and move them on the Chajnantor Plateau, ALMA workers must ascend to 5,000 meters above sea level. This extreme altitude requires workers to be in optimum health, and to ensure this, observatory staff must undergo constant medical examinations with paramedics and nurses who work at ALMA. They also undergo an annual High Altitude Medical Examinations (HAME), which clear them to work in the Chajnantor Plateau.
