7 August, 2013 / Read time: 2 minutes

On August 14, the "Science Café" organized by the French and German embassies in Chile will feature ESO astronomer Antoine Mérand and ALMA astronomer Antonio Hales. The activity starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Instituto Francés de Chile, located at Francisco Noguera 176 in Providencia, Santiago.

In this second version of the "Science Café," Mérand and Hales will discuss the formation and life of stars, including why stars shine, where their energy comes from and the destination of our Sun. Astronomer Matthias Schreiber of the Universidad de Valparaíso will also participate.

The science cafés series is an opportunity for the general public to learn about diverse topics in a casual environment. It is organized by the French Embassy's Regional Cooperation Delegation for the Southern Cone and Brazil and the German Embassy, and is also sponsored by the Institute Francés de Chile, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and ALMA.
