Sometimes it is difficult to think that there is precipitation in the driest desert in the world. But during January and February the Andes Mountain Range blocks the passage of large masses of humid air from the Amazon, causing rain and snow. Despite inclement weather, ALMA operations do their best to meet the annual schedule of approximately 4,000 hours of observation. © Juan Carlos Rojas - ALMA (ESO / NAOJ / NRAO)
