Contribution to Chile through telecommunications infrastructure

The installation of ALMA triggered the creation of a fiber optic link between San Pedro de Atacama and Calama, which brought into existence a digital highway through which it distributes the scientific data produced by the observatory. This strengthens the development of academic networks in Chile through collaboration agreements with REUNA. This encourages private companies to consider the future development of improvements to the existing telecommunication infrastructure in cities and towns located near to the observatory.
