This zoomed-in view of the southern region of 30 Doradus reveals some clumpy areas that help make up the gas cloud. Unlike the northern region, which is home to massive protostars more than 5x the mass of the Sun, the southern region is home to numerous protostars similar in mass to the Sun. Future studies of the star-forming region using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) will help scientists understand why star formation differs from location to location within 30 Dor.
