In ALMA, Japan developed the Atacama Compcat Array (ACA, a.k.a. the Morita Array) . Signals collected by 16 antennas are sent to the ACA Correlator, one of the supercomputers installed at the world’s highest elevation.
Enormous amounts of signals are processed instantly and converted into an easily-analyzable form using a Japanese original method.
In this short film we interviewed astronomers and engineers who devoted the development of the ACA Correlator.
