Huge explosion hidden in dust - gamma ray burst generation environment explored with ALMA

11 June, 2014 / Read time: 1 minute

For the first time in the world, ALMA detected radio waves from molecular gas in a galaxy where one of the largest explosive phenomena in the universe, a gamma-ray burst, occurred. We also found that the gamma-ray bursts observed this time occurred in a surprisingly dusty environment.

This video presents an interview with Bunyo Hatsukade, who led the research.
