The ALMA Front End system is the first element in a complex chain of signal reception, conversion, processing and recording. The Front End is designed to capture signals from ten different frequency bands.

ALMA's Front End is far superior than anything else in existence. In fact, products derived from ALMA prototypes are resulting in improved sensitivities in millimetric and submillimetric observatories around the world. The Front End units are composed of numerous elements that are produced as far away as Europe, North America, East Asia and Chile.
