A vast hotel stands in the desert

The ALMA Residencia stands in the desert, where it will be home to astronomers visiting to study the Universe with ALMA. It is located at an altitude of 2.900 meters, still over 2000 meters below ALMA itself, which sits on the breathtaking Chajnantor Plateau. The desert location was kept in mind during the designing of the building, ensuring it would blend in well with the surroundings. © Alessandro Caproni (ESO)
