ALMA is part of the "Mission Moon and Mars" Expo at the MIM
20 July, 2024 / Read time: 2 minutes
The ALMA astronomical observatory is participating in the fascinating "Mission Moon and Mars" exhibition at the Mirador Interactive Museum, organized by Fundación Astromanía with the support of the United States Embassy in Chile.
The exhibition's opening was successfully conducted, with representatives of all the organizing entities and guests who could enjoy this interactive and educational experience.
Organized by Fundación Astromanía in collaboration with the US Embassy in Chile, the Interactive Museum of Astronomy (MIA), the ALMA observatory, and the Wanglen Store, this exhibition offers a unique and immersive experience with half a dozen interactive modules. From Moon and Mars walk simulators, augmented reality modules, original board games, an original rover you can drive as if on the Moon, and a planetarium with 360° audiovisual projections with the most spectacular space missions to other worlds.
ALMA contributed an interactive model to the exhibition. It is a detailed representation of the observatory's highest location: the Chajnantor Plateau, where the ALMA antennas are located. Visitors can move the antennas and observe how the different configurations form astronomical images in various resolutions.
You can also see (and touch!) 3D-printed figures of significant discoveries from the observatory, such as the first image of a black hole, the formation process of planets, and disks of dust and gas from which moons will emerge.
We invite you to visit this incredible exhibition and discover how the ALMA observatory is helping to expand our knowledge of the Cosmos.
