#LetsTalkALMA campaign continues with high participation

26 June, 2020 / Read time: 5 minutes

The #LetsTalkALMA campaign had a great call to help everyone stay home. More than 30 thousand people have joined the more than twenty activities organized through the observatory's social networks, within the framework of the measures adopted to face the pandemic.

Storytelling, talks, and conversations are some of these activities for adults and children. If you missed them or want to repeat one, follow the links in the list below since we recorded almost all of them.

One of the most successful activities was the storytelling for kids led by ALMA astronomer David Rebolledo, who read the story written by himself for his daughter. "Ultra Violet shows you the birth of the stars" (in Spanish) was followed by many questions from the kids connected to the broadcast.

We also celebrated the birthday of the first image of a black hole, which surprised everyone in the world more than a year ago: Talks, Instagram Live and a special filter for the same platform, was already tested by more than 5,000 users.

As part of that celebration, we premiere the first of six new episodes of #WAWUA - Why do Astronomers Want to Use ALMA? The series created by astronomers and workers at our observatory tell us about gravitational lenses, how we measure the distance of distant objects, the formation of planetary systems, collaboration as a global challenge, and about the first image of a black hole.

Do you have astronomical doubts? Would you like to talk about a particular topic or show us something special? Are there any specific activities that motivate you or your daughters and sons? Send us your suggestions through our social networks.

The activities program is dynamic, and those who wish to participate can learn about the different events through ALMA's social networks and in the program that we regularly update on this page. All times are in Universal Time (UTC).
