Characterizing the solids in planet-forming disks using ALMA

ALMA observations have been used to characterize the solids in the disk around the young star TW Hydrae, one of the closest and most studied disks. The results show accumulations of large dust particles in the annular substructures of the disk, indicating that these rings might be the birthplace of new generations of planetesimals and/or planets.
