10th Anniversary of ALMA Science Operation - Seeds of Life: Exploration of Organic Molecules

20 July, 2021 / Read time: 1 minute

This is the second chapter of the interview series commemorating 10 years since the inauguration of ALMA.

"Where does life come from?" is one of the most popular questions in science, and Professor Masatoshi Ohishi of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) tells the story of how the idea that life can come from space emerged, and how ALMA approaches this question from radio astronomy.

The ALMA telescope, which started its initial scientific observations in 2011, celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2021. ALMA has enabled us to see various aspects of the Universe that were previously invisible, and astronomy has made great progress. In this video interview series, we look back on the past 10 years and introduce the great impact that ALMA has had on astronomy.
