23 October, 2020 / Read time: 1 minute

This is the observatory’s institutional video. In just 5 minutes it presents what ALMA is and how it operates, explaining its scientific, administrative, and social facets. It also emphasizes the importance of international collaboration to make this project a reality, which has achieved important milestones such as the first image of a black hole, among many others.

This video showcases beautiful images of the ALMA Operations Support Facility (OSF, 2,900 masl) and the ALMA Array Operations Site (AOS, 5,000 masl). It also explains how the different departments are organized at ALMA and shows what daily life is like for employees during their shifts. Finally, this audiovisual piece shows the impact of ALMA’s presence in Chile, both in terms of its support for national science and for the local community in the field of education, just to name a few.
