Zooming on the protoplanetary disc around V883 Orionis
14 July, 2016 / Read time: 1 minute
In this video, we take a journey to the young star V883 Orionis, located in the constellation Orion.
We start with a wide view of the Milky Way, while the image zooms in on the sector between the Three Kings (Orion's Belt), the Rigel star system (left leg) and the star Saiph (right leg), quite close to the latter and the Orion Nebula (which is part of Orion's sword).
Finally, we can observe the image taken of V883 Orionis with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), where we have been able to detect for the first time the outer layers of water snow that were ejected as a result of the protostar's eruptions.
